Sydney Sweeney’s ‘Bathwater Bliss’ Soap: A Viral Marketing Stunt or Empowered Move?
‘Bathwater Bliss’ Sydney Sweeney is teaming up with natural body care brand Dr. Squatch to produce a limited-edition soap with ‘an amazing fragrance and illustrated packaging featuring Sydney.’ Launching June 6, 2025, this one of a kind product is 'masculine', and 'adventurous' in equal measures, containing water from Sweeney's own bath, as well as exfoliating sand, pine bark extract and scents of pine, douglas fir, and earthy moss. A quantity of 5,000 bars will be produced, and 100 fans will have the opportunity to win one in advance.
The partnership is the result of an earlier Dr. Squatch ad that featured Sweeney sitting in a tub and left fans curious. Sweeney called the campaign “weird in the best way,” an attempt for men to not take themselves too seriously while trying to get with the times by supporting natural hygiene products.
But the product has received a mixed reaction online. Some fans think it’s funny and clever, other fans think it’s objectifying and pandering to the male gaze. Despite the backlash, Sweeney is standing by the campaign and stressed that its goal is to champion self-care and being true to oneself.
This partnership reflects how modern celebrity branding and consumer culture is shifting, as distinctions between personal identity and promotional tactics grow ever more opaque. Only time will tell the public's reaction as the launch date draws nearer to this rather unorthodox product.
